MASTER OF PUBLIC POLICY

Areas of Specialization (Optional)

As part of their 48 credits, MPP students have the option to specialize in one of the two following specializations: science, technology and innovation policy or environmental policy and sustainability. A specialization consists of at least four 3-credit courses, of which at least two are offered by the Division of Public Policy. Students pursuing this option must choose their elective coursework based on the requirements for their specialization.

 

CONCENTRATION

Students are given an option to specialize in one of the following concentrations. Double-concentration is no allowed.

 

1. Environmental and Sustainability Policy Concentration: 

This specialization provides students with the opportunity to acquire the tools, methodologies, interdisciplinary perspectives, and substantive topical knowledge necessary to be effective policy professionals in public, non-profit, and private organizations that cover a broad spectrum of issues relating to the environment and natural resources.

For 2018-19 admission:

Students who opt for the Environmental Policy (EP) Concentration are required to take at least 18 credits of PPOL Electives and up to 6 credits of EP Concentration Electives as part of the program requirements.

 

For 2019-20 admission: 

Students who opt for the Environmental and Sustainability Policy (ESP) Concentration are required to take at least 12 of the 24 elective credits from the approved lists of ESP Concentration Electives, including at least 6 credits of PPOL ESP Concentration Electives as part of the 12 credits of PPOL electives.

2. Science and Technology Policy Concentration: 

The specialization provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that are essential to professional careers in areas where science and technology are guided by public policy or where science and technology play an integral role in the formulation and implementation of innovative solutions.

For 2018-19 admission:

Students who opt for the Science and Technology Policy (STP) Concentration are required to take at least 18 credits of PPOL Electives and up to 6 credits of STP Concentration Electives as part of the program requirements.

 

For 2019-20 admission: 

Students who opt for the Science and Technology Policy (STP) Concentration are required to take at least 12 of the 24 elective credits from the approved lists of STP Concentration Electives, including at least 6 credits of PPOL STP Concentration Electives as part of the 12 credits of PPOL Electives.
